The Units of the Directorate are Finance & Administration, Planning & Statistics, Human Resource Management and Supervision. Also, Accounts and Audit division are included.

Finance & Administration

This unit is established to assist in handling financial and administrative issues on public basic schools for the MDE. The Unit ensures that the relevant financial and administrative issues are followed by schools in the performance of their duties in accordance with laws and regulations on financial expenses. The Unit is responsible for budget preparation and daily financial transactions of schools in the Savelugu Municipal Education Directorate.

Planning & Statistics

The Unit is established to perform the role of collection and preparation of statistical data on schools, teachers/pupils, furniture, classroom accommodation, instructional materials and other related matters for planning in the Savelugu Municipal Education Directorate for the MDE, the Regional Education Directorate, GES Headquarters, Ministry of Education and other relevant stakeholders of education. The Unit ensures quality and relevant data are provided by schools on time to facilitate quality planning in the educational sector. The Unit also has the responsibility of monitoring and evaluating educational Programmes in the Municipality and calculating educational indicators and making the necessary projections of enrolment in various levels.


The Supervision Unit is one of the units in the Savelugu Municipal Education Directorate which is established to monitor and supervise the actual teaching and learning being carried out in all the basic schools in the Municipality and to ensure that all other polices and interventions are implemented successfully in all the basic schools in the Savelugu Municipality.

Human Resource Management

Management has the overall responsibility for establishing and maintaining appropriate, adequate and effective controls within an organization so that objectives may be achieved with the optimum use of resources. It is the role of Internal Audit to assist management through the provision of advice and appraisals concerning the design and operation of internal controls. Part of this system of control is the existence of an Internal Audit.

The Internal Audit unit monitors compliance with rules, regulations, system, policies and procedures prescribed by Ghana Education Service. The Internal Audit Unit is an integral part of the governance frame work of MDA which requires that necessary controls and in place for financial and operational activities.


The Accounts Office of the Directorate is established to ensure that all financial issues are handled by the Accounts Office. The Office advice the Directorate on financial matters, receive all funds on, make payments, write cash books, submit monthly returns and preparation of financial accounts of the year for the Directorate.
