Municipal Director of Education (MDE)

Who is The MDE

The Municipal Director of Education is in charge of the implementation of pre-tertiary educational policies of the Government of Ghana at the Municipal level. The Director reports to the Regional Director of Education, Director General of Education, and the Minister of Education.  

Some Responsibilities of MDE

  • Implementation of the education policies and activities at the Municipal Level.
  • Running of the day-to-day administration of the Education Directorate.
  • Ensure the implementation of the decisions of the Education Service at the Municipal level.
  • Perform an advisory role in the Municipal Assembly on matters relating to education at the pre-tertiary level and other matters that may be referred to by the Municipal Assembly

SMED is responsible for the implementation of pre-tertiary educational policies of the Government at the Municipal level to ensure that all Ghanaian children of school-going age irrespective of tribe, gender, disability, religious and political affiliations are provided with the best quality formal education.
